Eighteen current and former members of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council called on the council’s chairman, Rabbi Irving “Yitz” Greenberg, to resign over his role in President Clinton’s pardon of fugitive Marc Rich. In the letter, Greenberg’s critics said that by writing to Clinton on Holocaust museum stationery asking that he pardon the financier, Greenberg embroiled the Holocaust museum in a controversy that has damaged its reputation, according to the New York Jewish Week.
