The objective of the Canadian Jewish community is the development of “a type of Jew who will be as Canadian as any other resident of this country” and “will share in the positive and creative qualities which marked the Jews of ancient Israel,” Babylon, medieval Spain and 18th century Russia, Samuel Bronfman, head of the Canadian Jewish Congress declared in his presidential address at the opening here last night of the eighth plenary session of the Congress.
“Our native Canadian rabbis and communal servants are contributing to Jewry here and in other lands. We are certain that the Canadian climate favors the development of the Jewish spirit,” Mr. Bronfman declared. In a report released yesterday in advance of the opening of the session, the C.J.C. declared that anti-Semitism is decreasing in Canada.
