A strike at the port of Eilat was settled last night but the work slowdown at Haifa port continued, delaying the loading of citrus cargoes at the peak of the citrus export season. The Eilat workers, who walked off the job last Friday, scored a victory when the Transport Ministry agreed to study the possibilities of increasing the flow of cargo through Eilat, Israel’s port on the Gulf of Aqaba. Pending completion of the study, Israel’s national shipping company, the Zim Lines, agreed to shelve its plans to open a new service to the Far East via the Panama Canal. In Haifa, a Labor Council committee met with longshoremen to urge them to return to work.
