Prof. Albert Einstein will serve as Chairman of the National Council of the American Friends of the Hebrew University, which is now being organized, it was announced today. The council will consist of leaders throughout the country who will sponsor the Hebrew University in their respective communities. The executive committee of the council includes Dr. A.S.W. Rosenbach, Roger W. Straus, Edward M.M. Warburg and Rabbi Abba Hillel Silver.
The 16th academic year of the Hebrew University opened this week with an enrollment of 1,200 students, highest in its 15-year history. There are 10 Arab students registered, compared with three last year. The Department of Agriculture is for the first time accepting students for its complete five-year course in theoretical and practical farming. Recent additions to the faculty and enlargement of various academic departments have rounded out the scientific and cultural facilities of the University and will make possible a broader program of study.
