Major national and local Jewish organizations today commended President Eisenhower on his reiteration at a press conference of his opposition to the Bricker amendment and pledged their “continuing support” of his stand on “this grave issue.” The proposed amendment would in effect prevent the United States from entering into any treaty affecting human rights and would doom such efforts as the Genocide Convention and the proposed Covenant on Human Rights.
The American Jewish Congress, Jewish Labor Committee, Jewish War Veterans, Union of American Hebrew Congregations, Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America, United Synagogue of America, and 30 regional state and local Jewish councils affiliated with the National Community Relations Advisory Council wrote to the President to that effect.
