General Dwight D. Eisenhower, American commander in the European theatre, is touring displaced persons camps in which Jews are held, it is reported today by the U.S. Army news service. in the American zone in Germany, which says the tour is being made at the request of President Truman.
Revealing that Gen. Eisenhower, together with Gen. George Patton, were guests of honor at a Yom Kippur service in the Feldafing camp, where 5,000 Jews are quartered, the report said that Gen. Eisenhower told the internees that he was visiting the camp, at the President’s suggestion, to obtain a picture of the living conditions of the Jews.
At the same time, he assured them that everything possible will be done to provide the security which, he said, the Jews well deserve after many years of hard trials.
