Eisenhower Names Orthodox Jewish Leader to Federal Judgeship

William B. Herlands, former Commissioner of Investigation of New York State, was named yesterday to be a Federal Judge by President Eisenhower. The appointment would be to the bench of the Southern District of New York.

Mr. Herlands is honorary president and former president of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America. He also served on the board of trustees of Yeshiva University. Mr. Herlands had also been actively connected with the American Jewish Committee, Synagogue Council and Jewish Statistical Bureau.
