President Eisenhower today indicated he was “a little disturbed” by Saudi Arabian discrimination against U. S. Air Force personnel of Jewish faith, National Commander William Carmen of the Jewish War Veterans said after a talk with the President.
Mr. Carmen said that the President thought that the JWV commander’s idea of visiting U. S. military installations in the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia, was a good one. The Defense Department has indicated to Mr. Carmen it will facilitate his trip but the State Department has not yet revealed its view. The JWV leader told Mr. Eisenhower that he will report to him on conditions affecting U.S. military personnel in Saudi Arabia if he is permitted to make the visit. The President indicated he would look into the question of discrimination affecting U. S. personnel in Saudi Arabia.
