Eisenhower Says “earnest Thought” is Given to Middle East

President Eisenhower told a press conference today that the United States does not look on the Middle Eastern situation with any great equanimity. Commenting on tension in that region after the Geneva conference, he expressed concern, indicating he was referring to Israel/and the Arab states.

The President expressed the view that only through friendship with each other would the Middle Eastern states achieve peace and progress. Mr. Eisenhower said earnest thought and study went on all the time on the Middle East situation.
