Robert Murphy, President Eisenhower’s special envoy to the Middle East, arrived here last night from a round of talks with Middle East leaders with the opinion that there was a “trend” toward peace between Israel and the Arab states.
Asked about the prospects for an end to the Israel-Arab dispute, he said “I would hope that there would be chances for improvement there” and then added he felt there was a trend in that direction among the Arab countries. He said “The trend is mild, but something.” Mr. Murphy conferred with leaders in Jordan, Israel, Iraq and Egypt during his mission in the Middle East.
