An El Al Boeing 707 made a successful emergency landing last night after circling Lod Airport for 25 minutes because a red warning light indicated that the landing gear was not functioning properly. The plane was inbound from Johannesburg when the pilot notified the Lod control tower of the possible emergency. Ground crews, ambulances and fire-fighting apparatus were alerted. An inspection afterwards showed that the malfunction was in the warning light, not the landing gear. Last Wednesday an El Al Boeing 707 from Rome made a safe belly landing at Lod when its landing gear failed to operate.
