An elaborate ceremony at Idlewild Airport today marked the inauguration of scheduled passenger service from New York to Israel by El-Al, Israel National Airlines.
Participating in the ceremony were Israel’s Minister of Communication Dov Joseph, Acting Mayor of New York Joseph T. Sharkey and a number of other notables. Newspapermen and guests of the Israeli Government were among the passengers on the first flight. The airline will use Constellation planes and will make semi-weekly runs.
A group of Israeli journalists arrived here early this morning on the inaugural flight which an El-Al plane made from Israel to New York. Officials of the State Department and of the Israel Embassy were on hand to greet the plane.
