Eleven Arabs Killed in Clash with British Forces; Jew Dies of Wounds

ELEVEN ARABS WERE KILLED TODAY WHEN POLICE, IN COOPERATION WITH ROYAL AIR FORCE PLANES AND THE TRANSJORDAN FRONTIER FORCE, ENGAGED A STRONG BAND AT THE VILLAGE OF ARABA, WEST OF TIBERIAS. ONE MEMBER OF THE BAND WAS CAPTURED.

ANOTHER JEWISH FATALITY WAS ADDED TO THE RISING TOLL WHEN JOSEPH BEN-ISAAC SIMON, 26 YEARS OLD, DIED OF WOUNDS RECEIVED TUESDAY IN AN ATTACK ON A JEWISH BUS FIVE MILES FROM JERUSALEM. J.F. WEITZ, JEWISH NATIONAL FUND FORESTRY OFFICER, WAS FIRED UPON WHILE INSPECTING THE KING GEORGE FOREST NEAR NAZARETH, BUT WAS NOT HIT. REINFORCEMENTS AND R.A.F. PLANES WERE DISPATCHED TO THE SPOT.

SEVEN ARMED ARABS ATTACKED AN INN IN THE KASLAH VILLAGE, WOUNDING THE INNKEEPER. ONE ARAB WAS SLIGHTLY INJURED WHEN A MOTORCADE OF SIX CARS, IN WHICH ARABS WERE INCLUDED, WAS FIRED UPON NEAR SHEIKABREK, A VINEYARD WAS UPROOTED AT HEBRON.

A BUS WAS FIRED ON NEAR THE VILLAGE OF ATLIT. GUARDS RETURNED THE FIRE. THERE WERE NO CASUALTIES. TWO POLICE CARS LOADED WITH CONFISCATED ARMS, INCLUDING A MACHINE GUN, LEFT FOR JAFFA TO DUMP THEIR LOADS INTO THE SEA.

THE COURT OF APPEALS CONFIRMED SENTENCE OF DEATH FOR TWO ARABS CONVICTED OF MURDERING MENDEL MINTZ, JEWISH TRUCK DRIVER, LAST FEBRUARY. SENTENCES WERE PASSED LAST WEEK BY THE CRIMINAL ASSIZES COURT.
