Eleven Reform rabbis were ordained here yesterday at commencement exercises of the New York school of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, held at Temple Emanu-El. Among the newly ordained rabbis was Henry Bamberger, son of Dr. Bernard J.Bamberger, president of the Central Conference of American Rabbis. The latter was the baccalaureate speaker at the services, while the ordination was conducted by the president of the HUC-JIR, Dr. Nelson Glueck.
In addition to awarding the degrees to the rabbinical graduates, the HUC-JIR conferred honorary degrees on John D. Rockefeller, 3rd; Jacob S. Potofsky, president of the Almagamated Clothing Workers of America; Howard Mumford Jones, professor of humanities at Harvard; Rabbi Samuel M. Segal, of Congregation Mt. Neboh, New York; Rabbi Meyer Miller of Durban, South Africa; and Rabbi Samson A. Shain, of Lancaster, Pa.
