Eleven persons were killed and a score wounded today in a series of bombings in Jerusalem and the ambushing of a railway trolley between Kalkillia and Ral-el-Ein.
A band of terrorists attacked the trolley, killing four British soldiers and three Jewish constables. The assailants were reported to have made off with a supply of arms and ammunition. The Jewish constables were Kurt Rumberg, 22; Joseph Benyamini, 27, and Israel Shulman, 22.
Royal Air Force planes tonight located and attacked the Arab band which this morning ambushed and wiped out the patrol. Sharp fighting was continuing tonight between the Arabs and several infantry detachments.
The fourth of a series of bomb explosions in Jerusalem within a few hours killed four Arabs and wounded about 20. Three previous bombs, exploding under manhole covers, destroyed telephone lines, cutting off service from 1,700 wires.
