The eleventh anniversary of the rebirth of Israel was observed here today at a special service held at Shearit Israel Synagogue. Israel’s Consul-General Simcha Pratt was the official representative of his government at the service.
A pledge to continue working in partnership with Israel’s people for the “aspirations of free men” was made by Morris W. Berinstein, United Jewish Appeal General chairman, in a cable sent to Prime Minister David Ben Gurion on the occasion of Israel’s 11th Independence Anniversary which will be celebrated on May 13th.
In his message to the Prime Minister, Mr. Berinstein stated that he spoke for millions of American Jews in expressing admiration for Israel’s people and for their willingness and generosity in welcoming nearly a million newcomers who have sought new lives in Israel. Mr. Berinstein reaffirmed the partnership between the people and the American Jewish community in “the inspiring venture” of rebuilding, rescue and rehabilitation of Jews.
A salute addressed to the government and people of Israel on the occasion of the with anniversary of the State of Israel’s independence was extended today on behalf of the entire membership of the Zionist Organization of America by the organization’s president, Abraham A. Redelheim. The salute was coupled by a call to all Zionists for intensified efforts to safeguard Israel’s integrity and its economic growth and to rally under the banner of the ZOA as “the oldest and major instrumentality for Jewish survival.”
Mr. Redelheim spoke at a two-day meeting of the National Executive Council, ruling body of the ZOA between conventions, attended by Zionist leaders from all parts of the country. The enrollment of 1,100 new Life Members in the ZOA on the occasion of the 11th anniversary of the State of Israel was also announced by the ZOA president.
