Elimelech Rimalt, leader of Likud’s Liberal Party wing, announced he will run for the office of President despite the fact that Premier Menachem Begin has endorsed Prof. Yitzhak Shaveh. His announcement has already created friction between the Liberals and Herut and a clash with begin seems likely when the Premier returns from Washington. Rimalt had been mentioned as a possible candidate to succeed President Ephraim Katzir whose term expires in May.
