The liquidation of the Jewish relief and loan societies in the small towns which exist chiefly on funds furnished by American landsmanschaften is urged in today’s “Emes,” Yiddish Communist daily. The paper demands that in the small towns near collectivized regions all of the property and funds of the Jewish loan societies should be turned over to the government grain farms while in those towns far from collectives their functions should be strictly limited and under stricter government control.
The Jewish loan societies are of great aid to the declassed Jews because they provide them with credit and raw materials as well as medical aid. They cooperate with the Agro-Joint, the Ort and the government cooperative stores but the “Emes” thinks that they are controlled by undesirable anti-Soviet elements.
