Emigration of Religious Jews from U.S. to Israel Planned

Representatives of nine major religious Jewish organizations voted today to set up a permanent committee on religious emigration from the United States to Israel and requested the Jewish Agency to establish a special section to assist religious Jews who wish to settle permanently in Israel.

In a unanimous resolution urging the promotion of Aliyah, the delegates asserted that monetary contributions do not answer all the needs of the state and that immigration of traditional Jews from America is imperative “if we want a religious Israel “The conference, attended by several hundred delegates, was addressed by S Z Shragal head of the immigration department of the Agency, and by Benjamin Mintz Vice Speaker of the Knesset. The latter assailed what he termed “anti-Israel propaganda in certain religious circles in America.”

Organizations sponsoring the conference included the Rabbinical Council of America Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America, National Council of Young Israel, Mizrachi Organization of America, Hapoel Hamizrachi of America, Poale Agudas Israel Mizrachi Women’s Organization of America, Women’s Organization of Hapoel Hamizrachi of America, Bnai Akiva-Bachad, and Mizrachi Hatzair.
