Enemy aliens who violate the Army’s new dimout restrictions on lighting will be interned, prosecuted or sent out of the east coast area, and citizens or friendly aliens who violate the rules will suffer the same penalties except for internment, it was announced yesterday by Lieutenant General Hugh A. Drum, commanding general of the Eastern Defense Command and of the First Army.
General Drum’s announcement came in a proclamation designating the Atlantic seaboard from Key West to Canada as a military area subject to regulation by military authority. The military area includes all New England, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, North and South Carolina, Georgia, the District of Columbia, and that part of Florida lying east of a southerly extension of Georgia’s west border.
