David J. Galter, editor of the Philadelphia Jewish Exponent and newly-elected first vice-president of the American Association of English-Jewish Newspapers, announced here that the Association is exploring many fields of activities in its program to raise the standards of the English-Jewish press.
Galter stated that committees are at work to examine advertising and editorial standards and to assist member newspapers in improvement of their make-up, content and advertising potentialities. Jules Miller of the Exponent and Samuel Neusner of the Jewish Ledger of Hartford head two separate committees on advertising. Joseph Weisberg of the Boston Jewish Advocate heads the editorial committee.
New officers of the Association elected at the recent convention in New York, where 28 communities speaking for 32 newspapers were represented, are: President, Philip Slomovitz, The Jewish News, Detroit; first vice-president, David Galter, Jewish Exponent, Philadelphia; second vice-president, Joseph Weisberg, Jewish Advocate, Boston; third vice-president, J.M. Feldman, the Sentinel, Chicago; recording secretary, Elias Jacobs, Buffalo; corresponding secretary, Jacques Back, Jewish Observer, Nashville; treasurer, Leo Frisch, American Jewish World, Minneapolis.
