English-jewish Publishers Urge U.S. to Check Anti-semitism in Germany; Hail Israel

A resolution calling upon the American Government to take leadership in checking the resurgence of anti-Semitism in Germany was adopted here today at the closing session of the seventh annual convention of the American Association of English-Jewish Newspapers held at the Hotel Statler. The resolution expressed distress over policies in the American and the British zones of Germany which make possible the rebirth of Nazism and the resurgence of anti-Semitism.

The convention also adopted a resolution hailing Israel “for opening its gates to hundreds of thousands of dispossessed Jews from all parts of the world.” It reaffirmed the responsibility of the English-Jewish press, as a medium of public information, to stimulate interest in and more generous support for the fledgling Jewish state. Philip Slomovitz, editor and publisher of the Detroit Jewish News, was reelected president of the Association for the seventh time.
