Enlistment of Pope’s Aid for Jews in Europe Sought, Eden Reveals

The possibility of enlisting the assistance of the Pope in carrying out plans to aid Jews in Nazi-held territories is borne in mind at all discussions initiated by the British Government on the problem of helping Nazi victims, it was stated here today by Foreign Secretary Anthony Eden.

The British Foreign Secretary made his statement in the House of Commons in reply to a request that the representative of the British Government at Vatican City urge the Pope to intervene for Jews in Nazi-controlled countries.

Hope that the Bermuda Conference will result in coordinated relief activities for the Jews is Europe was voiced here today by Lady Reading, addressing a luncheon of the Women’s Appeal Committee at which $40,000 was raised for the transfer of Jewish children to Palestine and their education there.
