The Protestant Episcopal Diocese of New York was on record yesterday as expressing “deep sympathy with those who are suffering in Germany” and summoning “Christians everywhere to voice disapproval of anti-Semitic discrimination.” A resolution to this effect was adopted at the 150th convention of the Diocese in Synod Hall, at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine.
A strongly-worded resolution expressing “a sense of shock and indignation” at the treatment of the Jews, which had been introduced by the Rev. Dr. Iddings Bell, retiring warden of St. Stephen’s College, was rejected and sent back for re-drafting.
Bishop William T. Manning, head of the diocese, spoke at the Madison Square Garden demonstration several weeks ago and joined in the protest against the Nazi treatment of the Jews of Germany.
