Establishment of diplomatic relations with Israel has put West Germany’s relations “with all Middle East states” on a “clear, honest and unassailable basis,” Chancellor Ludwig Erhard declared yesterday. Speaking at Bernkastel, the Chancellor made that comment on the anticipated arrival here today of Asher Ben-Nathan, Israel’s first Ambassador to West Germany.
He also said that his Government was ready to re-establish diplomatic relations with any of the Arab Governments that suspended such ties when West Germany announced last March it planned to recognize Israel. But, the Chancellor added, the Arab states would have to make the first move in that direction.
