Levi Eshkol, Israel’s Finance Minister, stopping here enroute from the United States to Israel, said today his conversation with French Finance Minister Antoine Pinay was “very satisfactory.” He said he found much sympathy and understanding on the part of the French Cabinet member when he outlined the problems faced by Israel.

Mr. Eshkol revealed he had outlined to Mr. Pinay the difficulties for Israel arising out of the recent French currency devaluation and the entry of France into the common market. It was reported that in his conversations, the Israel Finance Minister reviewed plans for French participation in the building of the Elath-Beersheba oil pipeline. However, it was also stated that recent reports published here that the two governments have reached agreement on a signed contract for the project were premature. Nonetheless, it is expected that negotiations will reach fruition soon.
