Prime Minister Levi Eshkol told the Knesset (Parliament) yesterday that the United States has not made Israel’s signing of the nuclear non-proliferation treaty a prior condition for aid. The U.S. has been urging Israel’s signature on the pact however but Israel had indicated that it needs more time to study the ramifications of the treaty, particularly with respect to the country’s security. Mr. Eshkol also informed the Parliament that the Government was still considering whether or not to ask France for a refund for 50 embargoed Mirage V jets and other military equipment paid for by Israel.
