Prime minster Levi Eshkol tonight denounced the Arab plan to divert Jordan River headwaters and tributaries in order to interfere with Israel’s project for drawing its rightful share of the Jordan waters through Lake Tiberias to the northern Negev.
Addressing the Knesset, Israel’s Parliament, Mr. Eshkol said that the Arb plan for water diversion is “nothing Less than aggression.” He pledged that Israel would “protect all its legitimate rights.”
Meanwhile, Israel’s Water Planning Authority, Tahal, reported today that Israel expects to start test pumping of its national water project, for irrigation purposes, in the near future, and to begin full operation of the Tiberias-Negev water lines by the beginning of the summer of 1965. The officials said that test pumping was necessary in order to try out various pressure pipes and valves.
