A $50,000 trust fund, to be known as the H. Pereira Mendes Foundation, was announced by Chief Judge Benjamin N. Cardozo of the Court of Appeals at the reception given Sunday afternoon in honor of the Rev. Dr. H. Percira Mendes at the St. Regis Rotel. Rabbi Mendes has completed fifty years of service to the Congregation Shearith Israel, Central Park West and Seventieth Street, New York. Seven years ago he became Rabbi Emeritus of the congregation.
The income of the trust fund will be used by Rabbi Mendes during his life-time. He is living in California at present. After his death the income will go toward the advancement of Jewish education within the Sephardic community in the city.
