The performance of Tchaikovsky’s “Eugen Onegin” tonight (Sunday) at the Mecca Temple will mark the opening of the season of Russian operas to be presented at the Mecca Temple by the Art of Musical Russia, Inc.
Ephrem Zimbalist, noted violinist, will make his debut as a conductor on this occasion.
The leading feminine role of Tatiana will be sung by Beata Malkin. Although this is the first operatic appearance of Miss Malkin, she has to her credit a number of highly successful performances in European capitals. Other women’s roles in “Eugen Onegin” are taken by Elena Shvedova as Larina, Edwina Eustis as Olga and Nadine Fedora as the nurse.
The title role of “Eugen Onegin” will be sung by the young Russian baritone, Alexis Tcherkassky.
