The Ministry of Social Welfare has drafted a degree ordering the payment of relief benefits to dependents of victims of racial discrimination on the same basis and scale as dependents of war victims. The move was proposed by the Central Board of Hungarian Jews and the Labor Camp Veterans Association.
The Jews still object to one feature of the proposed new law which places a priority on payments to the war victims because the Jews are already receiving aid from the Joint Distribution Committee. They assert that this provision is discriminatory and that under any circumstance benefits are determined by need.
