Jewish leaders this week urged European nations to coordinate legislation against racism and anti-Semitism.
They told leaders of the European Parliament, at its headquarters in Strasbourg, that the revival of right-wing extremism is a special cause of concern as Europe moves toward closer monetary and political union.
Firm action against racism was urged by a European Jewish Congress delegation at meetings with Egon Klepsch, president of the European Parliament, and with the chairpersons of various parliamentary groups.
Jean Kahn, president of the EJC and CRIF, the umbrella body of French Jewish organizations, led the delegation, which also called for a program of education to mutual tolerance and respect.
