The European press still continues to comment on Henry Ford’s withdrawal of the anti-Semitic campaign of his “Dearborn Independent.”
Mr. Ford’s recantation called forth a variet of feelings and conjectures. The “Vossische Zeitung,” German liberal paper, treates the Ford statement ironically. “The auto king was compelled to abandon his cheap product and now is getting rid of his borrowed opinions,” the paper states.
The “Berlinner Tageblatt” urges caution in accepting Ford’s statement. “Only a short time ago,” the paper writes, “Ford, in an interview with the representative of the ‘Berlinner Tageblatt,’ urged the German people to ‘free itself from the slavery of Jewish capital and of the Jewish League of Nations.”
The German nationalist press states with Ford’s recantation international anti-Semitism has lost a source of financial support.
The “Voelkische Beobachter,” an anti-Semitic organ, and other anti-Semitic journals do not comment on the word statement.
