Aubrey S. Eban, Israeli representative to the United Nations, and Dr. Ralph J. Bunche, acting mediator for Palestine, today received honorary degrees of Doctor of Hebrew Letters from the Hebrew Union College at the institution’s commencement exercises here today.
The same degree was conferred on Ephraim A. Speiser, Professor of Semitics at the University of Pennsylvania, and Dr. Hiram B. Weiss, chairman of the College’s beard of governors, Eleven graduates of the College were ordained, two rabbis received Doctorates of Hebrew Letters, and four other persons received various honorary degrees.
(In New York, the Jewish Institute of Religion ordained eight rabbis and awarded an honorary Doctorate of Hebrew Letters to Dr. Gershom Scholem, Professor of Jewish Mysticism at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The commencement exercises also honored the late Dr. Stephen S, Wise, founder of the Institute.)
