The Cabinet approved yesterday the establishment of an “Everyman’s University” within the framework of a pilot project administered and financed by the Rothschild Foundation. The university will function through television programs, correspondence courses and classroom teaching. Its main purpose will be to enable adults to earn academic degrees.
Deputy Premier and Minister of Education Yigal Allon told reporters that the resolution to establish the “Everyman’s University” has a great educational and social importance. He stressed the government’s thanks to the Rothschild family. The government also resolved to approve participation by the State of Israel, through the Arid Zone Research Center at Sde Boker, in the International University sponsored by the United Nations.
