Approxi###ly 100 Jewish families were ###red evicted today from the barracks in the Cabristan quarter of the city, where they have been sheltered since the great fire of 1917 which destroyed their homes.
The order was issued upon the application of the Greek Railways Company, which claims that it must have the space to build a new station.
The Jewish community of Salonica is not able to provide any other shelter for the threatened families because of its financial difficulties. The Executive of the Jewish community will intervene with the authorities to delay the eviction until the Winter is over.
