West German authorities have arrested Kurt Franz, former commander of the Treblinka death camp and two of the ex-Nazi’s assistants, on evidence given here by 30 former Treblinka inmates, according to a report received here by the Israeli police today.
Israeli Police Superintendent E. Leef, head of the Nazi Crimes Investigatinn Department, had taken testimony here from the Israelis who survived the persecutions at Treblinka, and forwarded the testimony to West German authorities. According to the exinmates, Franz had used Jews as target practice while heading the Treblinka camp. Witnesses testified that they had seen him using a shotgun to shoot down Jews at random when he took his daily walks around the camp.
