William J. Cameron, onetime associate of Henry Ford and editor of the Dearborn Independent, a newspaper which published many anti-Semitic articles several decades ago, died here yesterday at the age of 76.
Mr. Cameron, who became editor of the Dearborn Independent shortly after World War I, published among other anti-Semitic material “The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, ” the notorious forgery. He ran it in his newspaper and later published it as a booklet. Before his retirement, Mr. Cameron reversed his stand and made several speeches attacking persons who advocated religious or racial discrimination.
