The police announced today that Mius Garbler, a former Nazi police officer arrested on suspicion of the murder of a large number of Polish Jews during the war, committed suicide yesterday by jumping, from the window of his prison cell in the town of Wels in upper Austria.
The 57 year-old leader of the Gestapo department for Jewish affairs in the Polish town of Debica had been in prison for a year awaiting trial. He was also charged with participation of the transport of Jews to their death in the Auschwitz murder camp.
