As a protest against the persecution of the Jews in Hitlerland, the Deutscher Israelitischer Landwehrverein, oldest German Jewish society in the United States, yesterday changed its name to Deutsch Juedischer Maennerbund. The society is made up of German ex-service men.
Robert Rosenblum, president of the Federation of German Jewish Societies in New York, introduced a resolution providing for the change of name at the annual memorial meeting of the group held in McKinley Temple, 454 W. 155th street.
After praising the treatment of the Jews in the old Germany, the resolution condemned Nazi Germany, stating: “Under the new form of government, the stupid dictates have irreparably betrayed our confidence. To express our contempt for Germany’s modern medieval injustice, we have decided to discard a name that would indicate pride in having been members of the army of such a nation.”
