Officials of the tax department, after seizing the furniture of three Jewish restaurants here for non-payment of taxes imposed upon the owners, indirectly caused the establishments to be closed down yesterday. All three restaurants are situated on Nalewski street.

A protest against the excessive taxes imposed upon the Jews of Poland, who are forced to bear about seventy per cent of the country’s tax burden, was voiced in the Sejm recently by Dr. Joshua Thon, Jewish Deputy and member of the Jewish Parliamentarians’ Club.

Dr. Thon argued that the government was showing discrimination against the Jews by relieving the peasantry of many types of taxes while piling these up on the city populations. Most of the Jews of Poland are city dwellers, originally because they were forced into urban occupations.
