An appeal to the United States, England, Russia and other members of the United Nations to save the Jews in Europe from Nazi extermination by exchanging German citizens in these countries for Jews in Nazi-held territories, was voiced here last night by David Ben-Gurion, chairman of the executive of the Jewish Agency, addressing the extraordinary session of the Palestine Jewish National Assembly which was convoked for the purpose of seeking ways and means to rescue the Jews in Europe whom Hitler plans to exterminate by the end of this year, according to recent reports. Ben-Gurion also urged that the gates of neutral countries and of Palestine be opened to the Jews of Nazi Europe.
The session, which was attended by representatives of the Palestine Government and by the diplomatic corps, concluded with the adoption of an cath pledging itself “to save the remnants of Jewry.” Messages were received from Lowell C. Pinkerton, American Consul-General in Palestine, the Latin Patriarch and representatives of other religious communities in the country. The building of the Jewish Agency flew its flags at half-mast today, while the hall of the Hebrew University in which the Assembly was held was draped in black.
