“The Confederation believes that the Zionist movement is as valid today as it was before the State came into being,” the statement said. “Whereas emphasis was formerly placed on the political aspects and tasks of the movement, today the stress in on Jewish peoplehood, the centrality of Israel, the perpetuatism of Jewish life and culture in the Diaspora, and partnership with Israel expressed through aliyah, cultural exchange, fund-raising, etc.
“Ziolism can attract new elements and become the inspiring force in Jewish life in the Diaspora only if and when it will emphasize Israel as a whole, in all its broader aspects, and liberate itself from the constraints imposed by ties with the political parties in Israel,” the statement continued. “It has been demonstrated that one of the obstacles to effective Zionist work at Congresses, Actions Committee meetings, etc. is the injection into the deliberations of a spirit of political dissension carried over from Knesset and Government discussions. Diaspora delegates of groups affiliated with Israel Knesset parties are automatically involved, to the detriment of the work in hand,” the statement stressed.
