The civic and military role of American Jews, of both the north and the south during the Civil War, is depicted in a major exhibit of historical items which was opened today at the Jewish Museum of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America here.
More than 150 items were placed on display in the exhibit which was organized in commemoration of the Civil War Centennial. Among the themes are the attitudes of the 180,000 Jews of the period toward slavery, the role of the Jews in the armed forces, government, medicine and other fields, the Jews associated with Abraham Lincoln, and writings in English, Hebrew and Yiddish on Lincoln and the war.
