“Art Israel,” an exhibition by the 26 Israeli painters and sculptors, was opened tonight at the Jewish Museum here. The exhibit was organized by the Museum of Modern Art in New York, under auspices of the American-Israel Cultural Foundation and the International Council of the Museum of Modern Art. Dr. William C. Seitz, associate curator of the Department of Painting, and Sculpture Exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art, made the selections.
Dr. Seitz said that the selections “make up a cross-section of Israeli art today” even though “certain artists very popular in Israel are not represented.” He said international characteristics predominated over national ones. The exhibition here will end on Jan. 24.
