An exhibition of the most recent books published in Israel was opened here today at Shearith Israel Synagogue, where it will remain for one week before being sent to Jewish communities across the United States. The exhibition, which is open daily to the public, is sponsored by the Histadrut Ivrith of America and the Department of Education and Culture of the Jewish Agency.
The exhibit contains examples of Israel’s contributions to modern literature, the latest textbooks, dictionaries, histories, fiction and poetry. Special guided tours of the exhibit are available for groups of ten or more persons and for schools and organizations.
Prof. Israel Efros, well known Hebrew writer and poet and translator of Chaim Nachman Bialik, told the 300 Jewish educators and organizational leaders at the opening ceremony that the Jewish community should concentrate more on Jewish education in general and Hebrew in particular. Other speakers at the opening ceremony were Prof. Salo Baron of Columbia University. Rabbi Emanuel Green, chairman of the exhibit, and representatives of the Israel Government, Jewish Agency and Histadrut Ivrith of America.
