Wide attention was attracted by the exhibition of the work of Jacob Epstein, famous American Jewish sculptor, which was opened here yesterday. The exhibition includes a bust of the artist, one of his wife and daughter.
The English press publishes lively comments on the exhibition. The London “Herald” says that Epstein’s name will live for all time. The well known critic Konody comments on Epstein’s choice of Asiatic and exotic types. He terms Epstein’s treatment rude and offending to classic beauty, and criticizes what he terms Epstein’s perversity in accentuating vicious characteristics of his models. However, he states, Epstein is a powerful artist.
