An exhibition of religious art of the Old Testament, consisting of works by A. Raymond Katz, opened here today at St. Vincent’s College, Catholic institution of higher learning of the Order of St. Benedictine. It is believed to be the first such exhibition at a Catholic college. The exhibition, which will continue through March 27, contains oil paintings, tempera paintings, black and white drawings and applied art–including mosaics, stained glass, frescoes and marquetry.
In a foreword to the catalogue for the exhibition. Father Quentin Schaut, president of the College, asserted that Mr. Katz work illustrated well the return of art and artists to the service of religion. He also declared that from the point of view of the use of artistic symbols to help penetrate the mystery of religion, “not less than as an important inter-faith project the present exhibition is highly significant.”
