Dr. Anna Berkun, a noted Soviet Jewish pediatrician from Orensberg, has been given permission to emigrate to Israel, the New York Medical Committee on Soviet Jewry learned. Dr. Berkun and her 16-year-old son and invalid sister, had been arbitrarily denied permission for almost 2 years. Efforts on behalf of Dr. Berkun and her family included their adoption by New York area doctors, the publication of her petitions and vigorous appeals for the family’s freedom. The Medical Committee is an affiliate of the Greater New York Conference on Soviet Jewry.
