Announcement is made here that there are on the way to the University of Pennsylvania Museum stela from a fortress in Beisan, Palestine, the Beth Shean during the Egyptian occupation of the land. Stela and the remains of the fortress were found under a Byzantine church wrecked by the Arabs. The fortress was built in the reign of Seti I., about 1500 B.C.
In one line of his stela Rameses III relates how he gathered the Semites to build for him his city of Rameses. This is almost a parallel passage to that in Exodus, which records that the Israelites were forced to build for Pharach stone cities, caled Pithom and Ramases.
